Expression and the Inner: 6th Inter-University Workshop on Mind, Art, and Morality

April 8 - 10, 2010, University of Oviedo

The workshop: The Inter-University Workshop on Mind, Art and Morality promotes the relation among different areas of philosophy; more specifically, the Workshop aims at exploring those issues where ethical, aesthetical and the philosophy of mind’s discussion topics converge and interweave. In former editions, the Workshop has been devoted either to the work of the philosophers Richard Wollheim, Jonathan Dancy, Christine Korsgaard, Shaun Nichols or to broad subjects such as the Philosophy of Music (with the presence of Peter Kivy, Noël Carroll or Derek Matravers). In this occasion, the Workshop will receive David H. Finkelstein who will present his recent research on first-person authority.

Contributed Papers: We invite philosophers and other scholars interested in discussing these or other related topics to join the Workshop, for an exchange of ideas on these subjects. Contributions focused on David Finkelstein’s book are especially encouraged, but papers on any aspect of the first-person authority, self-knowledge, expression, conscious and unconscious states, are also welcome. Papers should be about 15 pages long (5000 words), to be presented in 40 minutes maximum, and to allow 20 minutes discussion. Extended abstracts, of about 2000 words, will also be accepted for review.
